Four workbenches

Separate variables before combining performance

A useful comparison defines the configuration, method and intended outcome. Product names alone are not test conditions.

Blade layup bench

Review veneer species, thickness sequence, fiber placement, adhesive system and handle format. A comparison record can log mass to 0.1 g, balance point in mm and test-racket assembly before player evaluation.

Rubber response bench

Compare sponge hardness and topsheet behavior with controlled contact conditions. Record temperature and relative humidity—for example 23 °C and 50% RH as a declared laboratory condition—because environment and aging can change results.

Table rebound map

A reproducible comparison can use a fixed 300 mm drop height, 16 documented grid points and 10 repeats per point, then report mean and range. This is a disclosed comparison protocol, not an ITTF approval claim.

Lifecycle bench

Set a declared load and cycle count for moving joints, locks and wheels, then inspect looseness, alignment and replacement access. Cycle totals without load and failure criteria are not comparable.

From hypothesis to field release

1. Define

State the player or facility problem and the measurable success condition.

2. Isolate

Change one meaningful variable while controlling setup and environment.

3. Repeat

Use multiple samples and record mean, range and rejected observations rather than the most favorable result.

4. Translate

Convert the finding into material, process, assembly or service requirements, retaining the sample and method revision.
